How to Apply for 2024 UBA National Essay Competition
The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which is aimed at promoting the reading culture and encouraging healthy and intellectual competition among senior secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

- Be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student
- Complete the form below
- Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed)
- Upload a copy of recent passport photograph
- Upload a scanned copy of Birth Certificate/National ID/ International Passport
How to Apply for 2024 UBA National Essay Competition
Selection Procedure:
Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 75 essays for further assessment.
Following this, there will be a regional test (North, South, East, and West) where the 75 shortlisted participants will write a supervised essay. You will be expected to select your preferred region while filling this form.
20 finalists will be selected from the 75 to sit for the third and final round which will be held at the UBA Head Office Lagos. The three best essays will be selected as the top 3 winners of the competition.
Awards:
Winner – N7.5 million educational grant to any African University
1st Runner-Up – N5 million educational grant to any African University
2nd Runner-Up – N3.5 million educational grant to any African University
Also, the best 75 essays that qualify for the regional test will get N75,000 each.
Things to note:
- All incomplete and/or duplicate entries will be disqualified.
- Ensure your full name is written on your handwritten essay before uploading.
- The title of the attachments should be the applicant’s name and the name of the document being attached e.g (John Doe – Passport Photograph)
