Value and 3 Positive Values Expected of Good Citizens of Nigeria
INTRODUCTION
There are many benefits to society if more good citizens are about. Firstly, it makes generally a positive society; good citizens make our society a better place by improving the environment that they live in. This provides everyone with a sense of community in an area and a sense of pride and responsibility for where they live in. By doing very simple tasks, for example, picking up litter, holding rubbish until finding a bin, and picking up their dogs’ waste they ensure that their area is well maintained and presentable.
Also, this stops the need for the council to spend money to get someone out there to clean it all up. This also shows a good role model for the younger generations, so they keep it up. Also, to follow recycling projects and put everything in the right bin and encourage and motivate friends and neighbours to do the same
A big part of being a good citizen is the ability to be able to challenge injustice and helps to enable fairness. An example, of showing this is someone telling the police about a drug dealer in the local area, a neighbor went to a community council meeting and told the police which attended to get a drug dealer near her

THREE (3) POSITIVE VALUES ARE EXPECTED OF GOOD CITIZENS OF NIGERIA
- Mutual respect to all:
All citizens should have respected and tolerated each other this way they would be less violence between faiths, cultures or races therefore the public services would not be required to break fights up or tend to the injured. They also need to show a positive attitude to everyone in their community. They should be non-judgmental, considerate, helpful and respectful. For example, loud music late at night or damage to properties. Also, this non-judgment can also relate to not being racist or homophobic.
- Volunteers:
There are specific jobs that citizens can volunteer for and help the public services. Police cadets or community support officers can be used by the public services to carry out specific jobs (Victim statement, etc.) and help catch criminals. It is also about taking an active part in the community and helping.
For example, neighbourhood watch, local fundraising, and environmental programs. Virgin Money London Marathon is happening on the 22nd April 2018 and this is all voluntary to raise money for clean, running water to 2000 people this helps people in the UK to work together in a community. Volunteer work benefits public services as it shows respect towards others from volunteering, which can lead to a less crime area as people respect each other
- Obey the laws:
It is important for all citizens to follow laws set down by the government this is for their own and others safety. The public services would have a lot less to do if everyone followed the rules and would have less pressure placed on them.
FIVE NEGATIVE VALUES WE MUST SHUN IN OUR SOCIETY
- DISHONEST: this is the quality that renders someone untruthful. Dishonesty is the inability of human to go straight forward why putting up truthful decisions or truthful talk in a society or among people of the same peers, a person who display this behaviour is known for telling lies, deceiving people and does not stand by the truth. A dishonest person is not transparent and is unfaithful such a person is not interested. A dishonest person is unreliable and people will not trust such a person.
- EXCESSIVE LOVE FOR MONEY :excessive love for money is one of the bad class of negative behaviour although everybody needs money and money is a medium of exchange that is being generally accepted by people, whenever you want to get a product or thing but that doesn’t mean it should become lord over one, money is important for our survival in society but when one has an extreme desire for money such that one can do the unthinkable like killing or stealing to get it then one excess and extreme love for money which is the negative behaviour. Peoples extreme love for money will make them to engage in money ritual in desperation to get money, a society frowns at this negative behaviour even the bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. So one has to know the way and the system or try not to love money excessively in order to still go with the balance of the society.
- EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE: examination malpractice is evil as said by everybody and should be shun away from, this do with cheating as a means of passing of examination which is done by student and students who engage in examination malpractice instead of studying hard to pass their exams, some engage in copying the work of their mate, some by examination question, some textbook or written materials into the examination room, these days, some students even bring some programs with solution to the question for the examination. This is a negative behaviour common among the youth in society and it should be stopped.
- DISREGARD TO TIME: it is a common saying that time lost can never be regained. People that treat time as if it is not important. It is common in most part of the world that people get to functions late. They have total disregard for time, they do not keep to time. If a function supposed to start at 3 pm people will not get there until 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. and then we’ll say 3 p.m. that the program was supposed to start is just the african time. This is a negative behaviour in our society and it should be shun.
- BRIBERY: this is an act of taking or giving bribe. Bribery is giving something valuable such as money in order to get someone to do something, or to influence someone’s judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust. In our society some people in need of contracts grease the hand of directors or people in charge of such agreements in an establishment with money so as to get contract. This is not good, it is a negative behaviour. Bribes are given to get unmerited or undeserved favour.
- CULTISM: is the act of joining a secret society. Some student in higher institutions of learning join cult group what are the extreme religious belief examples of cult groups in university and black axe, scorpions, blackberry etc members of this group to engage in bad act, like killing, stealing, arousement and cultism is a negative behaviour, we should stay clear and not join cult group because it is evil and exhibition away from.
CONCLUSION
A good citizen always supports the principles of fairness and equality and encourages those around to do the same. A good citizen should be looking out for and reporting crime and always work with the police, being happy and confident to challenge anti-social behaviour and appear as a witness in court and happy to take part in jury service. If every citizen works to enable fairness and challenges injustice this will create more of a community therefore reducing terrorism because people do not get left out and wouldn’t have bad views on other because everyone’s working together.
